but there is another world famous race the made Daytona famous.
The World’s Greatest Motorcycle race,
The Daytona 200 has been run in Daytona Beach Since 1937.
The Daytona 200 was originally run on a 4.2 mile beach track at the same location
that Racing’s North Turn Bar & restaurant stands today.

The Daytona 200 is still run every year. This is the event that drew motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world for years. The motorcycle race known as the Daytona 200 and inspired the event that is currently grown into Bike Week.

From 1937 - until the late 1950’s the Daytona 200 was run on a 4.2 mile track on Daytona Beach.
Highly packed sand banks and rising tides nade the beachside track exciting and drew crowds of spectators routing for their favorite riders. The race was not held from 1942 - 1946 in order to deal with the war.

The Daytona 200 monument was dedicated in March 2002, after Dick Klamfoth an his wife Beverly, who spent eight years raising funds and working with the city of Daytona Beach to get approval to place the monument near the beachfront site of the old Daytona 200 course.

The monument features the start of the 1959 Daytona 200 on the beach track.

The monument also features the likeness of the 12 nmen that were the Daytona 200 winners from 1937 - 1960.

Some of the men on the monument went on to make racing history and forever change the course of motorcycle racing history.

many were also inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame…….
