Many people have had questions about the construction at the Hawaiian Inn…

Here are some answers for guests considering a stay.

There are actually 4 phases to construction.

If you remember the resort is shaped like a horseshoe facing the ocean with the north end having 4 condos that face the ocean and the south end has 10 condos that face the ocean.

Phase 1 — Is the flooring - this is completed

Phase 2 is the North end facing the ocean - balcony replacement - this is completed

Phase 3 is the south end facing the ocean - balcony replacement - this is completed

Phase 4 is the courtyatrd area around the pool - balcony replacement

Phase 1 & 2 Began::

In Sept 2008 - they closed down the ENTIRE south 1/2 of the resort and redid the concrete floors and they removed the 4 balconies facing the ocean on the north end and those were repoured - replaced. The flooring work was completed around March 2009 and the balcony work was completed in July 2009 and the north end was reopened.

The floors for the north 1/2 of the resort were started in Sept 2009 and completed in December 2009

Phase 3:: All rooms at the south end were closed May 2009 and the balconies were removed and replaced. This area reopened Feb 15th and we spent Feb 5-15th down at the Hawaiian Inn getting our condos ready to rent out — they needed flooring work - carpet work - paint and a good cleaning.

Phase 4 is not scheduled to start until Sept 1st, 2010 and will probably go for about 1 year.

They will be removing all balconies around the pool and replacing them - so new balconies, new doors and really - New Hawaiian Inn.

So::

Phase 1 — completed 12-09

Phase 2 — completed 07-09

Phase 3 — completed 02-10

Phase 4 — to begin Sept 2010 to be completed ??

The plan is to build a walk thru tunnel to the pool from the lobby to the pool and enclose the balconies that are being worked on. We have no further construction schedule at this time.

Ocean Walk is a unique property for several reasons…

You are able to get a room from a private owner, front desk or timeshare owner.

It is also a resort where there are several ways to rent a condo

This is the timeshare we rented for the Daytona 500 last year….we rented about 10 for the Daytona 500

We got unit #520 at Ocean Walk Resort –north tower, ocean view condo….5th floor on the south end of building.
This condo has 2 balconies that are both oceanview — 1 balcony off 2nd bedroom — 1 balcony off living room. This location is a favorite for renters — having the 2nd balcony is always a favorite because of the additional privacy.

3 Other Outdoor Pools

2 Indoor Pools

Indoor Mini Golf

Lounge

Ocean Walk Shoppes with shopping and restaurants

It is also a resort where there are several ways to rent a condo

This is the timeshare we rented for the Daytona 500 last year….

Elvis stayed here … at the Copacabana

The time of small family owned hotels, small groups of cabanas along the beach. People my age remember this Daytona - the old days when things on the beach were quieter - simpler - and lower. The days when a 6 story building was considered a high building.

The days when you loaded up the station wagon - while dad had one hand on the steering wheel and drank a beer in the front seat and you motored down the road going 75 MPH without a seat belt. You’d hear — simmer down back there or I’ll pull this car over —

Yes, those were the days !!!

Ocean Walk 18th floor studio

As I own and mange my condos in Daytona beach - this is a condo that is available for rental. Rates and availability.

This is the studio side of my 2 bedroom 18th floor lockout.
This means that there are 2 adjoining rooms and they can be rented seperately. We usually rent the full 2 bedroom condo — A&B during high season and we will seperate during slower months.

By slower months I mean these dates:: Jan - Feb - Late April - May - September - October - November and December.

This is the “B” side of the condo and the square footage is about 500 square ft. When walking into this condo - you have the foyer with doors to Condo A or Condo B. The entrance is difficult to see, but it is right where the “Lockout” is written. On entering — bathroom is straight ahead and door to left to living area.

So here is our condo tour - we are trying to show what you will find on arrival. We are in the foyer - looking into the entrance, bathroom to the right and living area straight ahead.

This is in the entrance foyer looking left into the living area.

The bathroom – I always feel weird showing bathroom photos, I think it was my catholic school upbringing… but there are people that ask….and folks who truly believe that if the pictures are not shown , then there is a reason why and there may be something to hide…..

So — the bathroom…. indoor plumbing, running water and ceramic tiles that are sparkly clean…

Entering the living area :: counterclock wise efficiency kitchen on east wall, table, balcony and tv on north wall , chair, window and bed on west wall and headboards against the south wall.

Looking at the south wall….. we have beds ahead and the efficiency kitchen to the immediate right

This is the east wall with efficiency kitchen

Refrigerator - microwave - 2 burner stove - dish washer. Fully stocked with pots - pans- tableware - silverware - glassware - mixers - serving bowls - blender - toaster - coffee maker. We have tried to provide most things that would be needed.

Small table on the left with 2 chairs and the behind the table is a mirrored closet - with vaccuum - safe - iron and ironing board.

Looking at the entrance door

Standing at the entrance door looking at opposite corner — chair for relaxing eveing reading — TV - stereo - storage.

Walking by the table to the balcony. Balcony is large - about 6 x 10 and can accommodate 4 chairs. This is the view looking east to the ocean - oceanview from this vantage point. This balcony is on the north west corner of the building.

Balcony looking west - view overlooking river.

This is our most economical condo at Ocean Walk. Comfortable for a couple for any length of a stay. This condo would work best for the small family that wants to use the amenities and is not concerned with a large space.

I love German Food –

Living in Chicago - we have a great variety of restaurants to choose from and I love German food, and Polish Food, and Czech food. There aren’t very many old authentic type places such as these. I live near Berwyn Illinois — they have some really excellent European restaurants. Unfortunately, my husband was raised on this faire and he does not vote for German or Polish or Czeck very often, so it was a real treat when he agreed to try this restaurant out.

This is the 2nd time that I have been here. I travel here frequently with out the love of my life — and I will sit and enjoy a meal by myself if there is spaetzel involved.

Eurpoean Cafe and Schnitzel House…

I love the simple decor and the excellent food.

Outside there is a wall menu — with pictures of many dishes - so if you are not familiar with European food, you have an idea of what is offered.

Outfits like this make me think of cows…. places decorated like this remind me of my grandmother…..

She spoke Polish on the phone to the older relatives… she was born in Poland and came here when she was young. She grew up in Calumet City Illinois …. I remember I asked her once to teach me to speak Polish….

Know what she said ??

“Who in the hell are you going to talk to??”

Really — she did, and as an 8 year old I really did not have the reasoning power to explain that perhaps I would speak to HER… maybe she was afraid that I would 1 day understand that things she was saying about me or the x rated jokes she shared with her brothers……

My grandmother made several Polish dishes and I loved when she made these meals for us. This is probably why I have always enjoyed the European flavors……

Rye bread - and spreadable cheese. My husband loves the cheese spread, I missed having real butter on the table — but I can understand the restaurant limiting waste.

Dinner came — we both had the Weinerschnitzel…. I always have the Weinerschniztel with spaetzel, it’s my favorite.

There we go - spaetzel with gravy and Schnitzel with lemon…. excellent.

Real homemade - I heard them pounding out my schnitzel while I waited — and this means that there is someone making my food as I ordered.

I could have had the apple struedel, but I skipped it — I had it last time.

It was excellent. One of my all time favorites…..

I love the old time European Lodge Feel and I loved the food — strongly recommend.

We got here at about 745 PM and we were the last folks in the place — as 745 is really 645 where we come from, be aware that the food is excellent and the crowd that is here typically hits early.
