Bike Week 2010

September 9, 2009 by Renata Leave a Comment

This was originally posted on the Tripadvisor Forum,
worth repeating as much good info in 1 location::

We have been to Bike Week and Biketoberfest.

We also do the Daytona 500 and since Bike Week is just a few weekends later sometimes it is hard to stay that long so we are at Biketoberfest more years than Bike Week.

There are many events taking place.

The Main event (what Bike Week was basically founded around..) is the AMA Daytona 200 at the Daytona International Speedway. There is also a monument for the Daytona 200 at the Boardwalk::

daytona-beach-blog.com/2008/daytona-beach-da…

There are also vendors and bike manufacturers at the speedway, so you could kill a day with the races and checking everything out.

Riding south on A1A – there are several restaurants/pubs along the water that are worth the ride.

Racing’s North Turn

Lighthouse Landing

Down the Hatch

Harbor Inlet

Boondocks

Most of these places will have some sort of entertainment or band most afternoons and evenings.

In this area another photo opportunity is at

the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse.

Riding south on US 1 towards New Symrna, you will find

First Turn — an old Dale Earnheart haunt with great wings

The Last Resort — Biker Bar with campground and vendors out back – where serial killer Eileen Wernos used to hang out

New Symrna — the Harley dealer is on Rt 44 and Gilley’s 44 Pub is just about next door. We like to take Rt 44 to Beaches – A1A and head south – there is another restaurant/pub called JBs Fish Camp, a fun location – quiet and a good ride from Daytona.

Riding north on US 1 towards Destination Daytona you will pass the River Grill (excellent food) then the Broken Spoke saloon and Iron Horse Saloon. Iron Horse has vendors and usually David Allan Coe is there every year. He used to sing about getting drunk and getting nuts and now he sings about being a single dad and his kid’s are in his band he is not as wild as years ago, but still worth seeing There is also a Burn out pit here and a Wall of Death stunt rider – he’s OK —

These places are across US1 from each other and Broken Spoke may have changed it’s name – but you will have a bar – vendors and entertainment at both locations. There are also 2 or 3 smaller bars along this strip – all will have food – bands and cold beer and are geared towards bikers.

Destination Daytona – is at Rt 1 & I 95. This is Bruce Rossmeier’s biggest store, for a while it was the largest Daytona dealer in existence. Of course you will see the latest and greatest Harley models, this is the best place to see custom bikes of any other dealership that I have seen. OCC regularly has a few models in here. Last year (2008) they had the 50th anniversary NASCAR edition bike and they always have many cool bikes on display. You can also get the normal Harley boutique type items….make sure you check out upstairs. After checking out the dealership – they have many vendors, several restaurants and bars on location. I think this location may end up more like Buffalo Chip (Sturgis) in the future – They have a good start now.

Main Street Daytona Beach – Not to be missed. Especially in the evenings. They close the street down for Bikes only and fun to check out all the bikes parked along the way.

Great bars here too. At corner of Main & A1A is Cruise Inn – Nascar themed restaurant and then it’s Biker all the way down, You have Froggy’s – Dirty Harry’s – Full Moon Saloon – Filling Station and Boot Hill Saloon. Best place to get t-shorts for event is here.

Because these bars usually have the best looking shirts. If you see one in your size – get it cuz it will be gone by end of week. All of these places are fun – have good looking bartenders – wet T-shirt contests – food along the way. There are also souvenir shops in between with leathers – t-shirts – boots – bandanas and every other thing a biker may need or want while on a trip. Many vendors with custom bikes – chrome etc….

We always stay close enough to walk (or crawl) home – we party when we are on vacation. Make no mistake about it – you do not want the expense of a DUI (driving while intoxicated) while in Town.

Seabreeze Ave Daytona Beach– This is a fun part of town too. You have Lollipops and Molly Browns and several other clubs – pubs that are referred to as “strip clubs” which are really just girls in bikinis. Bring your dollar bills – usually there will be a “Feature Girl” who has most likely starred in some porno somewhere….

There is also Oyster Pub – decent food fun sports bar.

Along A1A Daytona Beach – you will find restaurants – tattoo parlors – souvenir shops – another strip club (Biggins) in Daytona Beach Shores – various bikini bike washes and other fun biker geared functions along the way.

Cabbage Patch & Tomoka Farms Rd – off International Speedway Blvd – west of the speedway – head east on Tomoka Farms rd – you will find the flea market which is an excellent location to pick up souvenirs and T-shirts are the best price around.

Past the flea market –you will find the Cabbage Patch – camp ground – bar with vendors and an unusual event – COLE SLAW wrestling. Make no mistake about it – these are not the same girls you will see on Seabreeze Ave…. they are rough and tumble and I have no idea how long it takes to get the cole slaw smell out of their hair – yikes !!

You also have Rhett Rotten’s wall of death. Stunt bike driver who is cool to see – he used to be at Boot Hill on Main St years ago and he has landed here. Well worth the money to see his act – although I am praying the entire time !!! Burn out pit at night and vendors.

The Loop — this is a scenic ride around Tomoka State Park. Worth checking out here is a link for the map

Downtown Daytona Beach – At the end of Broadway Bridge ( International Speedway Blvd) head north on Beach Street – there is Daytona Beach Harley Davison. There are also various vendors and Arlen Ness has a store behind Harley. Several pubs are nearby in the downtown area.

St Augustine – heading south on A1A about 50 minutes will land you in St Augustine. Scenic ride along the Atlantic. Once you get to St Augstine – there are several historic sites like the Casillo de San Marcos, a Spanish fort – prison built in the 1600’s. Europe is laden with history, but we are limited here in the states. St Augustine is one of the oldest US citys – you’ll find breath taking see views and a few oceanside bars along the way.

Have fun – Ride Safe
